Guided Tours

Black Hills Vacations can make arrangements for tours that accommodate many different requests. From day to special event to all-inclusive tours, here is an example of what we have arranged for various groups, ranging in size from 10 to over 100 participants.

Day Tours

  • Deadwood Tour – 6 Hours
Tour the beautiful Northern Black Hills – first with a stop in Lead to visit the Homestake Visitor Center, where you can learn the history of gold mining and view the expansive Open Cut. Then it’s on to the Historic Deadwood. Tour the Adams Museum and Historic Adams House (admission not included), then take a walking tour of Deadwood’s historic buildings. Finally, try your luck at one of the many casinos and enjoy dinner (not included) prior to returning back to Rapid City.
  • Rapid City Tour - 4 Hours
Your half-day tour of Rapid City starts with visits to Sioux Pottery, the Ridco Gold Factory (great opportunities to pick up a few South Dakota-made souvenirs) and the Chapel in the Hills. The chapel is a replica of the famous 850-year-old Borgund Stave Church in Norway.

Special Event Tours

  • Buffalo Roundup – 13 Hours
Depart by bus from the Radisson Hotel and arrive at Fort Hays for a cowboy breakfast. Then travel to the Buffalo Roundup in Custer State Park, where a chuckwagon lunch is provided before return to the hotel. At 5 p.m. return to Fort Hays for a Chuckwagon Supper & Cowboy Music Show. You will also have time to visit the “Dances with Wolves” film set at Fort Hays.

All-Inclusive Tours

All-inclusive tours include motorcoach, step-on guide, meals and lodging:

  • Day 1
Flight arrives in Rapid City - collect your luggage, hop onto your motorcoach and travel to your accommodations for the next five nights.
  • Day 2
Depart for the Badlands National Park and Wall Drug. You will have free time for shopping and lunch, on your own, in Wall. Return to Rapid City to tour the Journey Museum, which traces Native American and pioneer histories of the Black Hills. Return to hotel to freshen up before departing for the Flying T Chuckwagon Supper & Cowboy Show.
  • Day 3
Depart early for breakfast at Ft. Hays - one of the filming sites used in the movie “Dances With Wolves” and a great photo stop. After breakfast the tour departs for Mount Rushmore National Memorial, where you will have time to stroll the President’s Walk and view the original model of the monument at the Sculptor’s Studio. Next stop is the Crazy Horse Memorial with a bus tour to the base of the carving. Crazy Horse is being carved in-the-round, so the bus trip is a great way to appreciate the progress of the carving. Lunch on your own at Crazy Horse, then finish the day at Custer State Park with a Buffalo Safari Jeep Ride.
  • Day 4
The day starts with a brief tour of Rapid City. Stop at the Stavekirke Church, a replica of the famous 850-year-old Borgund Stave Church in Norway. Continue on to Spearfish Canyon, the most scenic canyon in the Black Hills. Lunch on your own at Latchstring Restaurant in the canyon, then on to Lead to tour the Homestake Gold Mine Visitor Center. Learn about the oldest, deepest gold mine in the Western Hemisphere, and get a birds-eye view of the expansive Open Cut from the Visitors Center. Then down to Deadwood, where you will enjoy a surrey ride of Mt. Moriah to pay respects to Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane and a visit to Kevin Costner’s latest attraction, ‘Tatanka’, a collection of magnificent bronze bison sculptures. Enjoy the historic buildings of Deadwood and the 75+ gaming parlors on Historic Main Street.
  • Day 5
Depart for Hill City, where you will tour the Black Hills Museum of Natural History and see “Stan”, an actual T-Rex and the finest exhibit of fossil invertebrates anywhere. You will have free time to shop and have lunch before boarding the 1880 Train for a scenic ride to Keystone. In Keystone you will visit the Borglum Historical Center and have time to stroll along the sidewalks of Keystone before heading to the Evening Lighting Ceremony at Mount Rushmore National Memorial. Dinner on your own at Mount Rushmore.
  • Day 6
Travel to Rapid City Regional Airport, where you will catch your departure flights.
